CUT AND PASTE

While everything nowadays is done digitally, its sometimes quite nice to see more traditional techniques such as cut and paste being used. Damien Blottiere is an example of someone who likes to use traditional techniques and whose work I love. He prefers to think of himself as an image maker rather than a photographer and has a facination with bodies trying ‘to go underneath and around them’, combining photos of ‘different times, perceptions or points of view’. The outcome is an abstracted form, bringing movement into fixed photos. He collaborates closely with Bernhard Willhelm and has also worked for different brands such as Pierre Hardy, Paule Ka, Stella Mc Cartney, Carven and magazines such as I-D.

The jagged shapes that I cut were to mimic the geometric shapes of the garment, layering up three different images, creating a puzzle for the eyes.
